My Story

Blue Cactus Marketing was created out of the need for results-driven, authentic marketing in the financial services industry. As marketers, we've seen so many advisors invest their resources into marketing services that yield little to no results. The reason why? Most advisors are using the same big box marketing agencies that use the same content for every advisor = everyone is marketing the same!

Tamra Gaines

Founder


I've been captivated by marketing for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I’d sit in front of the TV, analyzing commercials and trying to guess the target audience and whether the messaging hit the mark. To me, marketing is more than just a profession; it’s a vital part of how businesses and consumers connect.


Over the past 15 years, I’ve explored nearly every facet of marketing—sales, account management, customer journey, and traditional marketing. I hold a BBA in Sales and Marketing and an MBA in Digital Marketing. For me, marketing represents the creative heartbeat of a business, influencing every aspect of a company.


Most of my career has been spent with The New York Times' Higher Education Group, where I gained a comprehensive understanding of the industry. My role as a Customer Success Manager was particularly eye-opening, teaching me the importance of viewing a brand through the customer's eyes and preserving its integrity through thoughtful strategy and communication. In 2021, I transitioned to the financial services industry, leading the marketing department at an RIA firm and developing strategies for the firm and its 80+ affiliated advisors.


Outside of work, my husband and I keep busy with our two boys, Ethan and Dylan, along with our two labs, Chief and Daisy.
